On our first field trip we went to the forced from home exhibit at pioneer square we did multiple simulations of being refugees forced out of their home. To start it off students where given cards with drawn images of household items and other things, like keys, blankets and water. They were told to choose five and then lead through more different exhibits, and at the entrance of each exhibit they had to drop off one item in a box. At the end each student had one item, most kids had water but a few had brought passports, to show who they are if they need to move again. But as the kids were told, most refugees would bring keys, or old pictures thinking they would have a home to go back to, but they wouldn’t. Their home would either be too unsafe to go back to or it would be destroyed. Most students were horrified.
